How Can RCB Qualify For IPL 2024 Playoffs After Win Over Gujarat Titans

May 06,2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans by 4 wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive. Chasing a target of 147, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis got the team off to a blazing start, scoring 92 runs in the powerplay, RCB's highest powerplay score in IPL history. Faf du Plessis scored an 18 ball fifty before being dismissed for 64 in 23 balls by Josh Little. There were no fireworks from Will Jacks as he was out to Noor Ahmed for just 1 run. Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell also departed in quick succession in an attempt to score quick runs as RCB were reduced to 107-4 from 92-0. Panic triggered in the camp when Noor dismissed Virat Kohli for 42, however, Dinesh Karthik ensured there was no upset as RCB cruised to a win. Kohli also bagged the Orange Cap after losing it to Ruturaj Gaikwad recently.

How Can RCB Qualify For IPL Playoffs After Win Over GT?

The win over GT was RCB's fourth win in 11 games and it has kept them alive in the playoffs race. Even though RCB won't be able to qualify on their own, they will have a good chance if they can register a big win in all their remaining three games. A team needs eight wins to qualify directly, however, RCB can reach only 14 points if they win all their games. It is a very packed points table and a situation is building where several teams could end up with 14 points for the fourth slot in the points table. In that case, if RCB can have a better run rate than all other teams with 14 points, they can go through the top 4 in the points table. RCB play PBKS, DC and CSK in their final three games.

Meanwhile, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl. GT innings never got going as RCB pacers ran riot. Mohammed Siraj got rid of Wridhiman Saha early while Shubman Gill followed him soon to the same bowler. Cameron Green got rid of Sai Sudharsan to leave GT reeling at 19-3. A 61-run partnership between David Miller and Shahrukh Khan revived the innings but GT collapsed to get bowled out for a mere 147.
