Rishi Kapoor continues to be loved and remembered for his role in Bobby as it managed to give him the perfect launchpad as the romantic lead actor. However, a lot was riding on the film since it was followed by Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker, which failed at the box office.

When Rishi Kapoor opened up on Mera Naam Joker's box office

Mera Naam Joker took six long years to make and while it currently enjoys a great following, it did not do well on its release and in fact, it nearly disrupted RK Studios.

Back in 2018, Rishi Kapoor had opened up on the film's failure and said, “When Mera Naam Joker was about to release, our studio and all our assets were mortgaged to release that film, and the picture bombed. We were in severe problems. Then he made a film called Bobby with new boy and new girl, which was a huge risk after seeing the failure of Mera Naam Joker. But it became super hit and that is when his friends and my uncles insisted that he should to buy a house.”

He also added how today, the movie is loved by all and added, “It’s been 30 years since my father passed away and recently I visited Georgia and Tashkent. Today’s generation has the exposure to watch any of Khans’ films. They can see Kareena Kapoor or Karisma Kapoor or Ranbir Kapoor’s movies also, but why the youth still reacts to Raj Kapoor’s films? I also don’t understand that.”

On Rishi Kapoor, RK StudiosMera Naam Joker featured Rishi in a small role but it was Bobby that gave him the success that came his way. Kapoor passed away in 2020 after his 2-year battle with cancer. RK Studios, meanwhile, shut down a few years ago.
