Here's why ‘Suraj Ki Baahon Mein’ was used as an end credit song for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara featured Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, depicting a story of three childhood friends who go on a life changing road trip. Zoya Akhtar said the end credit song 'Suraj Ki Baahon Mein” was a last-minute addition, as the film’s original end–three boys running in front of bulls and towards the camera–didn’t land well with co-producer Ritesh Sidhwani and even the test screening audience.

In a clip shared on Reddit, Zoya expressed that for her, the film concluded with the boys running and the poem "Toh Zinda Ho Tum" playing in the background. Zoya revealed that Ritesh insisted on having a closure while she explained to him that the boys running was the end. But during the focus screening many viewers asked if the characters died? And to her it felt like a joke.

She had to then film a new song for the end credits to clarify that the characters were not dead. She jokingly suggested writing ‘For Stupid People’ before the song, but it was rejected. She emphasised the need to avoid open-ended conclusions in Indian commercial cinema.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was a massive box office success and remains Zoya's biggest film to date. Despite ongoing discussions and rumours surrounding a potential sequel, no concrete plans have materialised.
