'Blockbuster Combo' Sunny Deol to work with Aamir Khan in Rajkumar Santoshi's mass actioner

A few weeks back it was reported that Aamir Khan has signed Rajkumar Santoshi for two films under his production banner Aamir Khan Productions.

It was reported that Aamir will be starring in one film slated for Christmas 2024 release while for the other film, he will only serve as a producer.

Now, a new report in Times Now has claimed that the Rajkumar Santoshi film for Aamir Khan as producer will star Sunny Deol in the lead role.

The mass actioner will mark the reunion of Sunny, Aamir & Santoshi after 30 years.

The last time the trio worked together on a single film was the 1993 cult hit Damini. In the film, Sunny Deol played the supporting role of a lawyer Govind, Aamir Khan had a cameo where he played himself and it was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

Interestingly, Damini was produced by Karim Morani, who will also serve as the co-producer of the new film starring Sunny.

This will also mark Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi’s reunion after 27 years. It was reported that the two had a tiff when Deol’s 23 March 1931 Shaheed and Santoshi’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh clashed at the box office.

Sunny Deol & Aamir Khan’s history

Both superstars share an interesting history when it comes to films. In 1985, Sunny starrer in Zabardast which was directed by Aamir’s uncle Nasir Hussain. Aamir served as an assistant director for the same.

In 1990, Aamir’s Dil and Sunny’s Ghayal clashed at the box office. Both films turned out to be top two biggest hits of the year. Ghayal was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

In 1993, Aamir featured as himself in a cameo in Damini starring Sunny Deol.

In 1996, Aamir and Sunny clashed at the box office with Raja Hindustani and Ghatak: Lethal. This time as well, both the films were huge hits. While Aamir starrer was the biggest hit of the year, Sunny’s film took the 4th spot in 1996’s biggest hits. Ghatak was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

In 2001, Sunny and Aamir clashed at the box office for the third time with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Lagaan. This time as well both the films became big hits with Sunny starrer turning out to be an all-time blockbuster.
