Shubman Gill Breaks Shikhar Dhawan's All-Time India Record With 6th ODI Century In 2nd ODI vs Australia
September 25,2023Shubman Gill continued his sensational run of form in 2023 and scored the sixth ODI century of his career during the second ODI of the India-Australia series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday (September 24). Gill was one of two Indian centurions on the day, alongside Shreyas Iyer, as the Men in Blue aimed to seal a series victory.
Gill's brilliant run of form in 2023 in ODI cricket has seen him already make 1200 runs with the 2023 World Cup yet to even begin. Out of his six centuries in the 50-over format, five have come this year. In this month itself, Gill has made two tons, having also reached milestones against Bangladesh in the 2023 Asia Cup.
Gill has only taken 35 innings to reach the mark of six ODI centuries, making him the fastest Indian to reach the milestone in history. Gill has broken Shikhar Dhawan's all-time record, who had taken 42 innings to make his sixth ton in the format. In world cricket, Gill is the fifth fastest player in history to reach six ODI centuries, tied with Quinton de Kock.

Talking about the match, Gill put up a 200-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer, who scored his third ODI century. Gill made 104 runs in 97 balls, while Iyer made 105 runs in 90 balls. Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Ruturaj Gaikwad departing early in the innings. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan ensured India stayed on top with quick-fire knocks after Gill and Iyer's departure.
