World Cup 2023 final: Jasprit Bumrah consoles teary-eyed Mohammed Siraj after Australia clinch title

November 20,2023

Mohammed Siraj was left in tears and was consoled by Jasprit Bumrah after Australia defeated India by six wickets in the World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad on November 19.

India's poor run in ICC event finals continued as the Aussies have now beaten them three times with the 2003 summit clash being the first one. The 2023 WTC final was the second occasion followed now by the loss in Ahmedabad.

The Australian bowling attack, led by fast bowler Mitchell Starc who claimed three crucial wickets, was instrumental in curtailing the Indian batting lineup.

The day began with Australian captain Pat Cummins winning the toss and opting to bowl first on what appeared to be a dry wicket. His counterpart, Rohit Sharma, expressed his intent to bat first regardless, suggesting confidence in his team's batting strength. Despite an aggressive start from Rohit Sharma, India faced an early setback with Shubman Gill falling to Starc. The Indian innings saw some resistance with Virat Kohli scoring a half-century, but regular wickets hindered their momentum, leading to a final score that Australia would chase.

Australia's pursuit of 241 for victory didn't get off to the best of starts as Mohammed Shami dismissed David Warner in the second over and Jasprit Bumrah would get the wickets of both Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith.

However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne's partnership would change the complexion of the game, with Head scoring a magnificent 137. Australia would end up winning the match by six wickets.

Siraj was left in tears as the winning runs hit in his over and had Jasprit Bumrah and others come over to console him.

Siraj didn't have the best of days with the ball as he conceded 45 runs in his seven overs and only picked up one wicket.
