Who Was Sofia Cheung? Hong Kong Influencer Dies While Taking Selfie Near Waterfall

Hong Kong-based social media influencer Sofia Cheung died after slipping and falling into a waterfall while taking a selfie. The incident happened on July 10, 2021, at Ha Pak Lai park in Hong Kong.

According to reports, Cheung, 32, was on a visit to the park with three of her friends when the incident happened. She attempted to take a selfie at the park’s Pineapple Mountain site, overlooking a waterfall, but her foot slipped, and she fell into the 16-ft pool below.

Cheung was known for her adventures, which included hiking to dangerous places and posing for photos in precarious positions there. He Instagram page was called @hike.sofi and had around 12,00 followers at the time of her death.

Her final Instagram photo, posted on July 9, 2021, depicts her clutching a boogie board. The accompanying caption optimistically declares, “Brighter days are on the horizon: they’re known as Saturday and Sunday.”

Reports say that after Cheung fell, her friends instantly alerted the emergency services for help. The emergency services took Cheung to the hospital soon after, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Ha Pak Lai is a picturesque wetland area located on the coast of the northwestern New Territories in Hong Kong. It consists of two distinct parts: Sheung Pak Nai (Upper Pak Nai) and Ha Pak Nai (Lower Pak Nai). The park is renowned for its spectacular sunset and biodiversity, and the spot from where Cheung fell into the Tsing Dai stream near Yuen Long is one of the best places to witness sunsets at the park.
