Mumbai Indians: 'No Idea Who Is The Head Coach, Hardik Pandya Mostly Talks To Kieron Pollard Not Mark Boucher'

April 16,2024

Mumbai Indians suffered their fourth defeat of the Indian Premier League against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. This was even after Rohit Sharma slammed his eighth Twenty20 century overall. Sharma scored 105 not out off 63 balls but couldn’t help his side reach the 207-run target, with Chennai winning by 20 runs.

After the result, star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya faced scathing criticism from former players while another former India player Manoj Tiwary pointed out that there was another issue plaguing MI. Tiwary questioned the role of head coach Mark Boucher and wondered what his role is in the side as he is hardly visible with the captain.

"I feel Hardik is not only the probelm. Looking at MI, I cannot undersatnd who is the head coach. Pollard is more visible with Hardik since they have a great bonding. But Boucher is hardly present. Even when MI bowlers were getting hit, Malinga and Pollard were simply looking at each other thinking what change has to be done next. Should Romario Shepherd have been given the ball or not?," said Tiwary.

"So these things affect and those things never happened with GT. There Ashish Nehra continnously gave inputs. Ultimately, it is the captain who makes the difference and you need to select a proper captain because it is his decision that makes the difference on the field," Tiwary said on cricbuzz.

Former India great has also slammed Pandya for his "absolutely ordinary bowling and ordinary captaincy" so far.

It was the 26 runs that Pandya conceded in the final over with Mahendra Singh Dhoni going hammer and tongs, which proved to be decisive as Chennai Super Kings notched up a 20-run win over MI.

"Oh, absolutely ordinary bowling, ordinary captaincy. They should have been restricted despite the fact that Ruturaj Gaikwad had batted so well along with Shivam Dube. I do believe that they should have been restricted to 185-190," Gavaskar said.

"Probably the worst kind of bowling that I've seen for a long, long time," Gavaskar said on Star Sports during the innings break after CSK posted 206 for 4.

"It almost looks like I've had this embrace with my hero. I've got the kind of deliveries that he's gonna hit for sixes. One six is fine. The next one is a length ball when you know this batter is hunting for a length ball that he wants to hit.

"Third ball is again a full toss on the legs when you know he (Dhoni) is looking for a six."

Pandya finished with figures of 2 for 43 from his three oversar.
