IPL 2024, SRH vs PBKS: Abhishek Sharma Goes Past Virat Kohli's 2016 Record For Most Sixes Hit in a Season

May 21,2024

The breakout season from Sunrisers Hyderabad gets better for the young Abhishek Sharma who has stamped his authority to become one of the most explosive batters in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. His knock of 66 against the Punjab Kings has now given him the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian within a season of the IPL.

His 66 runs came in just 28 balls to give SRH the start they needed after his opening partner, Travis Head was out on the very first ball of the innings. Stabilising the chase of 215 against PBKS, Abhishek Sharma managed to strike 6 sixes in his innings to take the record.

However, the RCB icon, Virat Kohli is not too far behind and it will be a battle between the youngster and the experienced veteran for the title as both sides are set to go into the playoffs where the teams will duke it out for the big prize.

Abhishek has been outstanding with the bat. Having scored 401 runs through the season, he remains a crucial element in SRH’s explosive brand of cricket which most oppositions fear to go up against.

With Travis Head, the Indian youngster seems to have found his groove and has been scoring at a strike-rate of above 200, indicating his immensely aggressive approach.

The Hyderabad-based unit will hope that the 23-year-old will continue scoring the way he has been through the rest of the season as the title charge is well and truly on for Pat Cummins’ side.

The left-hander will have a crucial role to play in the playoff fixtures as well where SRH will be eyeing to add the second title into their cabinet and his knock in the final league game for the franchise is just proof of his talent which could see him get the India call-up as well in the future.
