Michael Vaughan taunts Wasim Jaffer over India’s ODI series loss in Sri Lanka. Ex-batter's reply is viral

August 12,2024

Cricket fans on Sunday were entertained by a viral banter between former India batter Wasim Jaffer and former England captain Michael Vaughan. The duo are known for their banter on various issues on social media and this particular one saw Vaughan take a dig at Jaffer after India lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka only to be trolled in the end.

It began with Vaughan mocking Jaffer after India lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka last week. "Hi Wasim... What was the recent ODI series result in Sri Lanka? I have been away and missed it... Hope all is well," the former England skipper wrote on X. Jaffer replied with: "I'll put it in Ashes terms for you Michael. Ind won as many games in that series as the Tests Eng have won in Aus in last 12 years."

India had defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series to begin the tour on an auspicious note, but Sri Lanka proved to be a tough opponent under new skipper Charith Asalanka and coach Sanath Jayasuriya.

The first ODI ended in a tie, India lost the second ODI by 32 runs chasing 240, and Sri Lanka defeated India in the final ODI by 110 runs while defending 248 runs. It was the first time Sri Lanka had defeated India in an ODI series since 1997.

Meanwhile, Jaffer's comeback was a reference to England's Ashes wins on Australian soil, where they haven't won a single match in the last decade.

The former cricketers' banter, however, delighted fans.

"Roasting game of Wasim Jaffer is God level, gold medal in roasting. Get your game up Michael Vaughan. It's getting as bland as English fish and chips!" wrote X user Snehal (@SneDam).

"COOKED... but this is good banter all in good spirit," added Ujjawal Kumar (@sonuujjawal26).
