Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio is offering complimentary subscription to its premium OTT platform, JioHotstar, to select users. Jio, India's largest telecom provider, completed its merger of Walt Disney's Disney+ Hotstar service in November last year, birthing a new entity known as JioHotStar.

Following the merger, the Jio-Disney joint venture announced subscription plans for its various entertainment offering on its new website Jiostar.com

Complimentary JioHotstar subscription for these users:

Reliance Jio, the telecom giant led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, is offering complimentary subscription to the JioHotstar service for select users.

According to details announced by the company, users who already have active Disney+ Hotstar subscription will get a subscription to JioHotstar at no additional cost, meaning that their subscription to the previous service will be carried over to the new platform. For example, if a user has a month left on their Disney+ Hotstar subscription, it will be carried over to the JioHotstar platform, allowing them access to Jio's OTT service till the plan lasts.

This is applicable on all Disney+ Hotstar plans that a user had subscribed to before the merger.

Additionally the following users will also get a 'free' JioHotstar subscription:

  1. Users who have an active monthly or annual subscription to the JioCinema platform, will also be migrated to JioHotstar services and their current plan will work with Jio's OTT platform.
  2. Jio users who have active Disney+ Hotstar or JioCinema (Premium) mobile or broadband plans will also get complimentary access to the JioHotstar platform without any additional charges.

How to check eligibility for complimentary JioHotstar access?

Download the JioHotstar app on your Android or iOS devices and log in using your registered phone number or email address to check whether you have an active subscription plan for any of the above mentioned services. If yes, then you will automatically get access to the JioHotstar OTT platform as your active plan will carry over to the new service.

Notably, Jio has announced autopay for all its existing subscription plans, means users will not be auto-charged for the JioCinema service anymore after their plan expires. They will have to buy a JioHotstar subscription to enjoy further access.
