Wockhardt Hospitals Drives Organ Donation Awareness Movement, Uniting Medical and Spiritual Voices

Engages 5,000+ People across Nagpur Mumbai Central, Mira Road in Organ Donation Awareness Effort
Nagpur, India – August 2025: Wockhardt Hospitals successfully concluded a month-long Organ Donor Awareness Campaign conducted between July 11 and August 11, 2025, across its Nagpur Mumbai Central and Mira Road hospitals and surrounding communities. Centred around the theme “Your Final Act Can Be Your Greatest One!” the campaign aimed to foster open conversations on organ donation and promote understanding across faiths and communities.
This awareness initiative brought together spiritual leaders from Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities, along with transplant specialists and families of donors and recipients, to help normalize the idea of organ donation in both medical and cultural discourse.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, Wockhardt Hospitals worked in close collaboration with Dharma Gurus, and members of the transplant specialists to deliver a unified message—that organ donation is a noble, compassionate act supported by medical science and spiritual values alike.
Addressing during the event, respected Hindu, Muslim & Christian community spiritual leader, remarked, “The concept of ‘Jeev Daan’—the gift of life—is embedded in our scriptures. Organ donation is not just acceptable, it is a sacred duty. When one soul gives another a chance to live, it transcends all karmic boundaries. It is the ultimate form of compassion, where death becomes the beginning of someone else's hope. By choosing to donate, we elevate our human journey into a spiritual one.”
A vital medical perspective came from Dr. Swapnil Sharma, Senior Liver Transplant Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, who emphasized: “India sees an alarming number of preventable deaths due to lack of donor organs. Our surgical teams are ready, our ICUs are prepared, and yet families hesitate at critical moments. If more people spoke about their wishes in life, we could save thousands after death. It’s not the science that’s lacking—it’s the conversation we need to start in every home.”
Dr. Suryashree Pandey - Nephrologists & Liver Transplant Consultant at Wockhardt Hospitals, added:
“One donor can save up to eight lives. It’s a chain of miracles that starts with a conversation. We are seeing increased awareness, but the challenge is in turning that awareness into action. Families must be encouraged to discuss organ donation openly, just like they do with other life decisions. When that intent is known, it empowers loved ones to say ‘yes’ with confidence and purpose.”
Dr. Piyush Marudwar, Gastroenterologist & Liver Transplant Consultant at Wockhardt Hospitals, emphasized the importance of proactive public education:
“Organ donation should be part of routine health discussions—not a taboo subject saved for the end. The liver is one of the few organs that can regenerate, and yet so many lives are lost waiting for a donor. By normalizing these conversations early, especially in families and among youth, we can make donation a natural choice, not a fearful one. Every pledge today holds the power to rewrite someone’s tomorrow.”
The campaign employed a dual strategy of community-level outreach and digital storytelling. Donor registration booths offering QR-code and physical sign-up options were installed in hospitals, corporate offices, and public areas. These booths often coincided with health camps offering free check-ups—drawing in a broader cross-section of society. Special webinars were hosted in schools and colleges to engage youth, while corporate partners participated in lunchtime awareness sessions and donor pledge drives.
Digital engagement amplified the movement. Short videos and testimonials from real donors, recipients, and doctors were circulated across platforms, creating an emotional connect with viewers.
Mr. Ravi Bagali Center Head at Wockhardt Hospitals, commented on the initiative's impact:
“The campaign has already shown tangible results—Wockhardt Hospitals reported a notable rise in online and offline donor registrations and observed a spike in public engagement across digital and physical platforms. This campaign isn’t just about medical procedures; it's about trust, empathy, and creating a culture of openness. By aligning healthcare with spiritual values, we created a safe space for meaningful conversations.”
The concluding event was marked by deep emotional moments. Families of organ donors were felicitated for their courage and compassion. Organ recipients and their loved ones shared moving stories of how a stranger’s decision had changed their lives. Attendees took part in a mass pledge, committing to speak to their families about their own intentions to become donors.
